Canadian golf legends take to Emerald Hills Golf Club
The 54-hole national championship, which takes place July 18-20, features an impressive field, including 10 previous seniors’ championship winners, Canadian Golf Hall of Fame members, former PGA Tour winners, and current Champions Tour and Senior European Tour members.
“It’s great seeing all these past champions like the legendary Bob Panasik and Dave Barr coming back and playing this year at Emerald Hills,” says PGA of Canada President, Gregg Schubert. “When you look at all the great past champions and all the other fine players in the field, this year’s Mr. PGA Seniors’ Championship of Canada presented by Cleveland Golf/Srixon should be an outstanding tournament.”
Past winners in the field include, Dave Barr (2007); Yvan Beauchemin (2008); Adam Brown (2004); Ken Fulton (1996); Graham Gunn (2006); Gar Hamilton (2002); Hocan Olsson (2005); Bob Panasik (1997, 1998, 2001); Doug Warner (2003) and Jim Rutledge (2010).
Players looking to capture their first Albert Murray Senior Professional Golf Trophy include Scott Allred, Benoit Boudreau, Ian Doig, Dan Halldorson, Phil Jonas, Scott Knapp, Jean Laforce, Keir Smith, Daniel Talbot and David Wettlaufer.
This year’s championship will be contested on the Forest and Parkland courses at Emerald Hills Golf Club.
“The two nines we’re playing feature a number of impressive holes that will force the players to hit a number if different shots,” says Tournament Director, Adam LeBrun. “It’s definitely a ball strikers golf course and the players who work the ball both ways and vary their shot trajectory will do very well here.”
The $55,000 Mr. Lube PGA Seniors’ Championship of Canada presented by Cleveland Golf/Srixon will commence Wednesday, July 18th and will consist of a three-day, 54-hole individual stroke play. The Super Seniors’ (60 and older) divisions will be contested over 36 holes in two days.
Tournament week gets underway on Tuesday, July 17th with the Mr. Lube Tournament for Life Pro-Am, an annual charity event in support of prostate cancer research. The first Pro-Am was held in Toronto in 2010 and has now expanded to Calgary. This one-day tournament will help to increase the profile of our partnership and work with Prostate Cancer Canada. As a partner of both the PGA of Canada and Mr. Lube Canada, Prostate Cancer Canada helps to battle this disease by building awareness and generating funds for research.

The PGA Seniors’ Championship of Canada was first played in 1938 as a division of the Canadian PGA Championship. In 1973, the Seniors’ Championship became an independent event and has stayed that way ever since. Among the Canadian golf legends to win this championship are Stan Leonard, Moe Norman, Bob Panasik and Al Balding. Norman won this championship a record seven straight years from 1979 to 1985, while Balding stunned the golf world by winning the championship at age 76 in 2000.
