PGA Player Rankings Released

The PGA of Canada released its updated PGA Player Rankings presented by RBC Wednesday.

With his win last week at the PGA Championship of Canada sponsored by Mr. Lube and presented by TaylorMade-adidas Golf, Eric Laporte (Montcalm Club de Golf) made a large jump, up from No. 41 to inside the top 10 at No. 9.

Brian McCann (The Academy at Braeben) held on to his lead atop the rankings and earned an exemption in this year’s RBC Canadian Open at Hamilton Golf & Country Club, July 23-29.

Rounding out the top five are Dave Levesque (La Prairie Club de Golf) and Danny King (The Performance Academy at Magna) who are both tied at No. 2, Bryn Parry (Seymour Golf Centre) is the fourth ranked, while Mike Belbin (Royal Mayfair Golf Club) comes in at No. 5.

A number of players made big moves thanks to strong play in Calgary, including Lindsay Bernaketvich (Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club) up 33 spots to No. 15; Eddward Boudreau (Gorge Vale Golf Club) up to No. 18 from No. 43; Conor O’Shea to No. 23 from No. 34; Kevin Black (Seven Hills Golf & Country Club) moving from No. 71 to No. 51; and Brad Clapp who moved up 50 spots from No. 89 to No. 39.

The PGA of Canada Player Rankings presented by RBC are based on a three-year rotation, meaning any points earned in 2009 will be lost at the conclusion of that same event in 2012.

PGA of Canada members can accumulate points from four championships per year, however, if members play in more than two championships within ‘Categories A, B, C and D,’ they will only receive points for the two events with the highest point totals.
