Thanks to a new professional development partnership with Frankly Academies, PGA of Canada Apprentices and Candidates for Membership in the ELITE and PACE programs have a chance earn a Certified Putting Instructor (CPI) scholarship.

The CPI program was developed by Frank Thomas—former USGA Technical Director and inventor of the graphite golf shaft—with the goal of creating a comprehensive curriculum based on good science to help PGA professionals deliver a holistic putting lesson.

“The CPI program has brought clarity in the sometimes muddy interpretation of what ‘should’ happen in terms of putting.  This has in turn been reflected in the confidence of instruction that I have been able to extend to the members which as we all know can help drive putter sales as well,” says PGA of America professional and recent graduate of the CPI program, Cameron Wiebe. “I would encourage anyone with interest in the improvement of their instructional base to closely consider the CPI certification program."

The online CPI program will cover the 12 fundamentals of putting, putter technology, ideas for your business and is conducted online via text and video.

Thomas says that the CPI program is a result of more than10 years of putting research and based on sound scientific principles supported by eight PhDs on the CPI advisory board.

“PGA professionals who take the CPI course will find it’s a great educational tool,” Thomas says. “We are proud to provide it and confident that the CPI qualification will stand them in good stead for the rest of their professional career.”

A total of 80 CPI scholarships are available for those who are eligible and they should register by April 13. Other PGA of Canada members who are interested in furthering their education should consider becoming a CPI.
