Starter’s Shack—March Madness

Starter’s Shack—March Madness

This morning I was a jolted from my slumber by a large flash of lightning, followed by the boom of thunder. “Excuse me,” I thought to myself. “Why is there a storm raging outside my window?”

I guess it has been pretty hot and humid this week in Southern Ontario, so it was only a matter of time before the big thunder-clappers would roll in. It is that time of year, though. Wait, what?

For a winter that’s been warmer than usual (I don't even know what that means), the past five days here in Southern Ont., have been bonkers. Patio bars are bumping, kids of all ages are rocking shorts, Crocs and tees, and golf courses are jammed.

According to our good friends at The Weather Network, warm weather records are being broken every day in spots across Ontario. A bunch of new records were also set in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta in recent days, too.

To borrow the popular phrase, “How do they do it?”

This past week I’ve spoken to a handful of PGA members in this area and they all tell me their respective courses have come through the winter remarkably well. They each credit the lack of snow, spells of warm temperatures and minimal frost over the winter for the ‘dry’ March conditions.

Have I ever seen anything like it? Not really, no; but I really like it. Actually I thinks it’s awesome with both Weekend Warriors and PGA members having a chance to get a little jumpstart on the ’12 season.
