The Culture of Coaching

The Culture of Coaching

The first delivery of the Coach of Developing Competitors (CDC) workshop, which took place at the beginning of the month in Port St. Lucie, Fla., was inspiring to be a part of and step forward in the direction of creating and developing a culture of coaching in Canadian golf.

Like any big event, the CDC workshop has taken years to develop, half a year to plan and many last minute calls and errands to make happen. Turns out it is no small feat to get three former/current national coaches, a leading Canadian sport psychologist, an extreme physiologist/professor and 12 busy coaches from around the country in one place.

The roster was diverse within the facilitator team and participating coaches. We were in the classroom, on the range, putting green and sitting around tables. But what was really cool? The conversations happening over meals and breaks—from facilitator to coach, between experienced coaches and inexperienced, from coach to administrator—this is where the real sharing happens. This is how you create new cultures.
