Grimm Unable to Attend Canada Night

The PGA of Canada regretfully informs that due to health concerns, Richard (Dick) Grimm will be unable to attend Canada Night—Presented by the PGA of Canada, PGA Worldwide Golf Exhibitons and Sponsored by Sunice, Tommy Hilfiger Golf and AUR.

The 88-year-old Thornhill, Ont., resident met with PGA of Canada CEO, Gary Bernard late last week, informing him of his decision to stay at home, rather than travel to Orlando, Fla.

“I had a nice lunch with Dick last week and he told me that due to his health he didn’t feel comfortable travelling to Orlando,” Bernard says. “And that is totally understandable,” adding, “we still plan on honouring Dick’s impressive career in the Canadian golf landscape that evening.”

As part of Canada Night on Friday, Jan. 27, Grimm will be honoured with the inaugural George Cumming Distinguished Service Award and become an honourary PGA of Canada Lifetime Member.

Grimm has asked that PGA of Canada member and Wooden Sticks Golf Club Executive Professional, Greg Seeman accept his award and say a few words on his behalf. A pre-recorded video message from Grimm will also be played.

Grimm’s career in the Canadian golf industry dates back nearly 50 years, starting in 1965 as Chairman of the Canadian Open for Mississaugua Golf & Country Club. In 1970, 1975, 1977-80, Grimm was the RCGA’s Canadian Open Chairman. For a decade (1983-1993) Grimm was the Director of Professional Tournaments for the RCGA and was also the Canadian Tour’s Commissioner from 1993-1997. Grimm is a member of the Ontario and Canadian Golf Halls of Fame. Furthermore, he’s a former President of the RCGA (1974); RCGA Governor (1969-1974); and RCGA Honourary Life Governor (1975-present).

The George Cumming Distinguished Service Award is designed to recognize outstanding individuals who display leadership and humanitarian qualities, including integrity, sportsmanship and enthusiasm for the game of golf.

Canada Night—Presented by the PGA of Canada, PGA Worldwide Golf Exhibitons and Sponsored by Sunice, Tommy Hilfiger Golf and AUR takes place Friday, Jan. 27 between 5:30 and 7:30 at the Orange County Convention Centre in Room 304 C/D as part of the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Fla.
