Golf in Schools Partners with Callaway Golf Canada

Golf Canada and the PGA of Canada are pleased to announced that Callaway Golf Canada is making a significant commitment to help grow the game of golf at the grassroots level in becoming the presenting sponsor of the National Golf in Schools program.

Golf in Schools, presented by Callaway, will help introduce the sport of golf to thousands of children through the Canadian elementary school system. While financial terms of the three-year agreement will not be disclosed, Callaway’s support will help bring the program to hundreds of elementary schools across the country.

For Callaway Golf Canada’s Managing Director Scott Reid, the decision to support Golf in Schools is based on Callaway’s longstanding commitment to grass roots golf.

“We have been very interested and excited about the Golf in Schools program since its inception,” said Reid. “To now be able to put some concerted time, effort and funds in behind this initiative, gives us hope that the health and future of the game of golf has a true fighting stance to succeed.”

Launched in May of 2009, the Golf in Schools program has already been introduced into physical education classes at 1,250 of Canada’s 10,000 elementary schools across Canada.

For Golf Canada and the PGA of Canada, welcoming Callaway Golf Canada as presenting sponsor of the Golf in Schools program will be a catalyst in helping to introduce thousands more children to the sport of golf.

“I want to thank and congratulate Callaway Golf Canada for stepping up in support of the Golf in Schools program and taking a leadership role in helping to develop a new generation of golfers,” said Golf Canada Executive Director and CEO Scott Simmons. “The Canadian elementary school physical education system represents a vital touch point that will help introduce thousands of children each year to the game of golf.”

“This is another great step in the evolution of the National Golf in Schools program,” said PGA of Canada Chief Executive Officer Gary Bernard. “I believe Callaway’s involvement can only benefit the program in getting more kids introduced to golf and have them start down the pathway to a life in the game.”

Developed by Physical Health and Education Canada (PHE Canada) in partnership with Golf Canada and the PGA of Canada, Golf in Schools provides each participating elementary school with the required equipment and teaching curriculum manual to integrate golf into the school’s physical education program.

Callaway’s support of Golf in Schools as the national presenting sponsor builds off the company’s involvement with the successful Callaway Golf for Kids program, a grass roots initiative developed by the Golf Association of Ontario which supplements the Golf in Schools program in the province of Ontario.

For Scott Reid, getting involved with Golf in Schools at a national level was a natural evolution of Callaway’s ongoing commitment to grassroots golf.

“Callaway has been involved with the GAO’s Golf For Kid’s program for several years and we felt now was the right time to expand our support of the game nationally,” said Reid. “We look forward to working with Golf Canada, the PGA of Canada and all of the provincial golf associations to bring Golf in Schools to thousands more Canadian elementary schools and increasing the awareness of the program from coast to coast.”

In addition to Callaway as presenting sponsor, Golf in Schools is also proudly supported by the National Golf Course Owners Association (NGCOA Canada), Canada’s provincial golf associations and ClubLink.

The Golf in Schools program also offers corporations, golf clubs or individuals looking to give back to the game the unique opportunity to “Adopt a School” in their community. The total cost to “Adopt a School” is $475 per school (with a tax receipt) which includes the full set of plastic clubs and equipment as well as the easy to use learning resource curriculum for teachers.
