Final Rankings Released

The final PGA of Canada Player Rankings presented by RBC for 2011 was released Tuesday morning and a familiar name sits atop the impressive list of golfers.

 

Brian McCann of The BraeBen Academy led the Rankings with 160 points, edging The Performance Academy at Magna’s, Danny King by 11 points. Bryn Parry of Seymour Creek Golf Centre rounded out the top three with 141 points.

 

With a win at last week’s Titleist & FootJoy PGA Club Professional Championship of Canada, both Brett Burgeson and King had an opportunity to end the year at No. 1, however neither were able to earn the victory. King finished T4, while Burgeson finished T7. McCann, on the other hand, was not entered in the event.

 

On the strength of his win at the PGA Club Professional Championship, Roger Beale of Royal Westmoreland earned 45 points, jumping from No. 127 to No. 26.

 

Other big moves after last week’s championship in Port St. Lucie, Fla., include: Lance McCullough of The Ridge Course at Cordova Bay moving from No. 424 to No. 123; Chris Wehrle of Whistle Bear Golf Club climbed to No. 73 from No. 152; Mill Woods Golf Club’s Kevin Black rose to No. 70 from the 99th spot; while Martin Plante of Balmoral Club de Golf moved into 57th place, up from No. 77.

 

The PGA of Canada launched its Player Rankings in March and has received praise from the Canadian golf media, the National Board of Directors and its members alike. 

 

Players ranked inside the top 64 will earn invites to the 2012 PGA Championship of Canada sponsored by Mr. Lube and presented by TaylorMade/adidas. The player who is ranked No. 1 at the conclusion of the tournament will earn an exemption into the RBC Canadian Open at Hamilton Golf & Country Club in late July.

 

McCann also earned 2011 Player of the Year honours, earning more points this year than any other PGA of Canada member.

 

The PGA of Canada Player of the Year Award was launched this year and is based on points earned throughout the calendar year. Players gain these points based on performance at national and zone tournaments.
