“It feels great. I’ve been really, really close many times with seconds, thirds and fourths”, said Belbin.

I’ve wanted this one for quite a few years now and I finally closed the deal this week”, said Belbin following the awards ceremony at The Cherry Hill Club in the Niagara area.

Belbin went into the final round leading ten-under, paired with Bryn Parry of Seymore Creek Golf Centre in North Vancouver, BC, who was two back of Belbin and Edd Boudreau of Gorge Vale Golf Club in Victoria, BC.
Belbin played steady on the front nine with six pars and one birdie, until he bogeyed seven and double bogeyed nine. Heading to the “favoured” back nine, Belbin came back with a birdie on ten, twelve and again on eighteen capturing the title with an 11-under-par 205.

The win will give Belbin a leap in the PGA of Canada Player Rankings taking him from 18th into the top ten.

“It’s a good start. I was a little disappointed with myself in one of our local Alberta events that I didn’t play well in this year, but I wanted this one and I want to be number one and I’ll work toward it”, added Belbin.

Parry finished with a 7-under-par 209 and Louis-Pierre Godin of Trois-Rivieres, QC finished third with a 4-under-par 212.

Cherry Hill was founded in 1922 and was originally designed by renowned golf course architect Walter J. Travis. In 2009, Cherry Hill completed a major golf course renovation project developed by golf course architect Ian Andrew, lead architect for Weir Golf Design. Features of the renovation included mounded, grass-faced bunker complexes that are characteristic of Travis designed courses. The greens remain virtually unchanged since inception and are considered to be among the most authentic Travis greens in use today. Cherry Hill is one of the finest courses in the Niagara region with a rich history including having hosted the 1960 Ontario Open, the 1972 Canadian Open and the PGA Championship of Canada in 1982.
