(Acton, ON) August 12, 2011: Gary Bernard, Chief Executive Officer of the PGA of Canada was recently elected Chair of The National Allied Golf Associations (NAGA) by fellow board members at a meeting on July 28,2011.

NAGA is a national golf organization comprised of the Canadian Golf Superintendents Association (CGSA), The PGA of Canada, Canadian Society of Club Managers (CSCM), Canadian Professional Golf Tour (CPGT), Golf Canada, and the National Golf Course Owners Association Canada (NGCOA Canada) dedicated to improving all sectors of golf in Canada. Formed in 1999, NAGA’s objective is to work cooperatively together as industry leaders ensuring a strong future for golf in Canada.

Bernard will hold the post for a one-year term. “I’m excited to take on this new role”, said Bernard. “We have begun the task of building awareness of the industry and the positive effects it has on the economy. This is the first step, but there is more work to be done”.

Recently NAGA held a successful lobby day in Ottawa as part of their inaugural government relations campaign, wherein members of NAGA met with key government officials and ministers. The focus was to raise the profile of golf as an industry while introducing elected officials to the size and scope of the industry and highlighting the positive benefits that golf has on Canada’s economy and communities.

“The lobby day was a great opportunity to introduce the importance of the industry to government officials” said Bernard. “I’m looking forward to continuing the work that we started and building the profile of the game for the betterment of the golf industry.”

Bernard detailed the strategic priorities of NAGA during his one-year term. They include continuing to develop the government relations plan to capture the good will and momentum created through the federal and provincial lobby days, a review of the overall strategic plan and conducting a National Consumer Survey. Bernard also indicated that he is keen to promote the improved Golf Industry Barometer (GIB), a PGA of Canada and NGCOA initiative supported by all NAGA members. GIB is a program that establishes benchmarks and measureable indicators for the entire golf industry.
