Canadian PGA Announces Mercedes-Benz Canada as Presenting Sponsor of Centennial Gala

(ACTON, ON) June 29, 2011: The Canadian PGA announced today that Mercedes-Benz Canada will be the presenting sponsor of the Canadian PGA Centennial Gala on July 11th, 2011 at the Hilton Lac-Leamy in Gatineau, PQ.

“This is a fantastic marriage of two best in class brands celebrating historic anniversaries,” said Glenn Cundari, President of the Canadian PGA. “The Centennial Gala will be an exciting event and we are thrilled to partner with Mercedes-Benz to enhance the celebration”.

Mercedes-Benz, the leading luxury vehicle brand in the country, will feature its vehicles onsite at the Centennial event and on the back cover of the Canadian PGA Centennial magazine. Mercedes-Benz celebrates its 125th anniversary in 2011, and more than 55 years in Canada, while the Canadian PGA celebrates 100 years this year.

"The Mercedes-Benz brand maintains a strong connection to prestigious golf associations and world-class tournaments around the world. As the oldest Professional Golf Association in North America, the Canadian PGA has significantly advanced the sport's overall visibility and level of professionalism in Canada throughout the last 100 years," said Tim A. Reuss, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Canada. "This tradition of excellence nicely complements Mercedes-Benz Canada's established leadership position in the luxury market in this country, and the pioneering spirit that has existed since our company's founding fathers invented the automobile over 125 years ago. We are proud to celebrate this significant milestone together with the Canadian PGA, and applaud the invaluable contribution that its membership has made to the game of golf in Canada."

The Centennial event will celebrate the past, present and future of the Canadian PGA. The festivities include a golf event in the morning of July 11th at the Royal Ottawa Golf Club and Rivermead Golf Club, followed by a gala dinner that evening featuring master of ceremonies Brian Williams at the beautiful Hilton Lac-Leamy Hotel in Gatineau, Quebec.

The event expects several hundred members to take part in the celebration, joined with industry leaders and partners, media, sponsors, PGA World Alliance members, the National Board of Directors, special guests and government dignitaries. The celebration will also feature a detailed historical display depicting original members, past champions and antique equipment organized in conjunction with the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame and PGA Zone offices.
