Special Olympics Golf Coach pilot launched at Canadian PGA Headquarters

On February 26th, 2011, the Canadian PGA, in conjunction with Special Olympics Canada, hosted the first pilot for the Special Olympics Golf Coach workshop at their National Headquarters in Acton, ON. The Special Olympics Golf Coach workshop is the first sport-specific technical coaching package (sport-wide) for Special Olympics Canada and is part of the Canadian PGA’s Community Sport stream. Like Future Links Leader, the Special Olympics Golf Coach workshop is designed for volunteer coaches in the community. The Canadian PGA, in partnership with Golf Canada and the Coaching Association of Canada, has taken an important leadership role in the development of these coaching resources- providing both content expertise and in-the-field support.

The pilot was facilitated by Canadian PGA Lead Learning Facilitator, Glenn Cundari, and involved the training of 6 Special Olympics coaches, who are currently working with Special Olympics athletes in Ontario. Also in attendance were representatives from the Canadian PGA’s National Office, Special Olympics Canada and the Coaching Association of Canada.

The Special Olympics Golf Coach workshop will be available to coaches around the country when it rolls out this summer. A resource list of Canadian PGA members who are available to answer questions or provide support to Special Olympics Golf coaches will be provided at the workshops. If you wish to be added to this list, please provide email and phone contact details to Morgan Court, Education Coordinator, at (800) 782-5764 x240 or morgan@cpga.com .
