Jessica Shepley to Defend Title at Canadian PGA Women’s Championship presented by NIKE Golf

ACTON, ON – (August 9, 2010) – Jessica Shepley of Oakville, ON has confirmed her entry into the 2010 Canadian PGA Women’s Championship presented by NIKE Golf and will attempt to defend her title at Burlington Golf & Country Club on August 16-18.

Shepley’s victory last year will always hold a special place in her heart as it was her first as a professional and she did it with a birdie on the final hole to shoot 66-69 winning by a single shot over Clarissa Childs of Columbia, SC.

“Winning this National Championship last year was absolutely huge for me,” said Shepley, who earned another trip to the LPGA’s CN Canadian Women’s Open by virtue of her victory last year. “This event seems to get bigger and better every year and I hope to add my name to the trophy again next week.”

Shepley’s taste of victory seems to have carried over in her play to 2010 as she stormed out of the gate with a win at the first CN Canadian Women’s Tour event at Quilchena Golf & Country Club in Richmond, BC. She followed that up with a 2nd place finish at the final CN Canadian Women’s Tour stop in Gatineau, Que. Those two finishes alone put Shepley on top of the tour’s order of merit with $20,000 and locked up the Jocelyn Bourassa Player of the Year award.

“Jessica Shepley was a fantastic champion for us last year and we are thrilled to have her back in 2010 to defend her title,” stated Glenn Cundari, President of the Canadian PGA. “We expect another exciting finish in 2010 at Burlington Golf & Country Club and we look forward to crowning another national champion.”

Shepley currently holds conditional status on the LPGA Tour and fully exempt status on the Duramed Futures Tour. She currently sits in 30th place on the Duramed Futures Tour money list having missed only one cut in 13 events with her best finish coming at The International at Concord event where she finished T5.

The event gets underway on Monday, August 16th with the Simmlands Insurance Pro-Am followed by championship play on Tuesday, August 17th and Wednesday, August 18th with 18 holes of stroke play each day
