Canadian PGA Congratulates Graham DeLaet on Securing his 2010 PGA TOUR Card

Acton, ON (December 9, 2009) – The Canadian PGA is proud to announce that Canadian PGA Member Graham DeLaet of Weyburn, Sask. secured his 2010 PGA Tour card after an impressive 8th place showing at the gruelling PGA Tour Qualifying School’s 108 hole Final Stage at Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.

“It's been such a crazy run that I barely even know where I am right now,” said DeLaet who joined the Canadian PGA’s Tournament Player Division in 2008. “What I do know is that I've always dreamed of playing on the PGA Tour and I'll be doing it in 2010.”

DeLaet fired rounds of 70-71-64-69-70-73 to earn one of the coveted 25 PGA Tour fully exempted cards and will now complete on the PGA TOUR in 2010 alongside fellow Canadians Mike Weir, Stephen Ames and Chris Baryla.

“The Canadian PGA is thrilled for Graham DeLaet on securing his PGA Tour card and we look forward to following his progress in 2010,” said Lindon Garron, President of the Canadian PGA. “Graham’s year in 2009 is one for the ages and the Canadian PGA will continue to do whatever we can to support all of our Members in pursuing their dreams just like Graham has.”

DeLaet capped off one of the greatest globetrotting displays in all of golf in 2009 in a magnificent breakthrough season that saw him win twice on the Canadian Tour to take the Order of Merit, a number of high finishes including a win on the Sunshine Tour in South Africa, making the cut in both the Canadian Open and the Wayne Gretzky Classic and represent Canada at the World Cup in China for the second consecutive year.

“It was a great year for me from a professional standpoint and couldn’t have finished off in any better way,” stated DeLaet, who was the first guest on the inaugural Canadian PGA Radio Show earlier this year. "I'm proud of where I grew up and proud of being Canadian. If I can put a smile on people's faces by playing golf, I'm thrilled to do it."

DeLaet wrote a blog for the Canadian PGA all year long and his latest instalment highlights how intense it can get at the Final Stage of Qualifying School. In addition Graham talked about his plans on a celebration.

“My wife and I are heading to Hawaii for a week to relax and I’m not even going to bring my clubs as they could probably use a rest too.”
