AUGUST 13, 2009— Tiger Woods is a step closer to adding another major title to his name: Olympian.

Golf officials say they're "thrilled" by the International Olympic Committee executive board's decision to recommend golf and rugby sevens be added to the 2016 Games.

The full 106-member IOC assembly will vote in Copenhagen in October.

PGA of America CEO Joe Steranka says nothing will grow the game worldwide like inclusion in the Olympics.

Woods and Lorena Ochoa have been outspoken in their support of the effort. Woods also said this week that he would play in 2016, as did defending PGA Champion Padraig Harrington.

Golf has proposed a 72-hole stroke-play competition for men and women, with 60 players in each field.
